8 weeks to go !

16.3 k last night at 5:20 pace nice and easy with no problems.
It seems to take at least 4-6k for me to get all the niggles out last night. My left knee felt sore with the odd sharp pain and my right hammy with the same then at about 5 k nothing !?!
Sometimes I feel like crap for 10k then all of a sudden I start to enjoy the run and all pain is gone ? It cant take me that long to warm up ? can it ?
Short easy run tonight then a nice easy long on Saturday morning !

It's raining again !

Wow ! After a couple of really crappy runs where I was not feeling good at all I ran last night and WOW.
Yep it all came together. Not a long or really fast run but I felt like a two dollar hooker on crack ( really good) no aches no pains easy breathing and striding really well.
15.3 k all hills at 5:10 pace.
I felt I could do it again faster !
Then reality set in I had a shower sat down for dinner and my right calf muscle cramped.
ouch, not as bad as child birth but close. ha
rest tonight, maybe !
I need to find better excuses to go running !
8 weeks to go I need a long run about 40k to raise my confidence.
I have been reading blogs and stories about the comrades marathon and another wow. It brought back alot of memories. As a kid standing on the side of the road watching thousands of people run waddle crawl jog buy !
I wish I could be there next year, maybe I should make a plan !

Weekend Runs !

Well friday night was rest night. Friday was HOT getting to about 36 degs and after mowing the lawn in the heat and having a couple of beers (instead of water) to cool me down i planed my semi long run for the next day. I was aiming for at least 21 k. When I woke Saturday morning it was about 24 degs and I packed extra water for the run. I started slow hopeing to get into my stride and pick up the pace at about 7k. I seem to find that it takes me at least 7k to get all the niggles and aches out by then. But it was hot and I did not feel great, I even felt like walking a few k's. I kept going anyway and ran 23 k at 5:40 pace.
Normally Sunday's run is a quick 5-8k but I did a bigger loop and pushed out a 12k in under 5:20 pace nice and easy with a wind that would at times felt like I was running on the spot.
Not many k's done this week a total of 62k but next week up go the k's and another long run 30k plus to finish off the week.

Another day and night !

A rest night followed by a 9 k sprint last night in just under 41 min. rest again tonight then another long run on Saturday Morning. I am not sure how far I will run but next week I will try to get a 40k run in. Last night I nearly got taken out by 2 differnt cars looking the other way when driving ! Wow ! I bet the heart rate went up !
I watched a few utube vids on comrades marathon 89k and it brought back memories as a young boy watching the thousands of runners as they made their way down or up.
I watched the finish once when I was 12 and remembering so many people crying as they got to the finish. I now realise how emotional it must have been for them.
I cant wait to get there and do it.

Days blend together !

A long hard day at work and all I wanted to do was get a full 8 hours sleep !
I did manage another no preassure run ( no watch, gps or ipod). It really gets the mind ticking over and reminds me of the days when I would swim up and down the pool following the black line. The mind tends to wonder all over the place. Back in my kickboxing days I would run 12k every day no matter what. The same track over and over again, I had 2 really steep hills on this run and would think about fighting someone, playing out in my mind what I would do. The adrenalin and wandering mind would get me up these hills and it felt as though I had not even run the hill.
Anyway 2 months till the BrisVegas marathon and all is well. I am trying to fit 1 more ultra towards the end of the year before the "Kurrawa to Duranbah and back" run in December. Wow it was hot hot hot hot last year and no wonder there was a few DNF's.

Make it a Quickie !

I hoped to get at least 12 - 15 k easy done last night but in true form it rained again !
Not that it bothers me but when I left it was clear skies and I had my ipod on (not waterproof) So when I got about 4k from home it started to rain only softly but I ran to a trail under trees narrowly missing getting hit by two cars and slipping on the nessisary evil the foot path.
When under the trees I picked up the pace and headed towards home. All up 10.8 k at under 5min pace. A little disapointed but i feel like I need a 15-16 k run very soon. I enjoy these runs because I go out nice and easy and come home faster (negative split). Feeling hungry this morning I might get bacon and eggs or something greasy happening for brekky ! mmmmmmmmmm bacon !

Day 6 or is it ?

Monday morning ! Oh yeah what a way to start the day 12k easy a nice run no watch, gps, ipod or preassure. just take in the view of MortenBay and the islands as the rain falls AGAIN !
The wind has now started to really piss me off, the rain isn't so bad its just the wind blowing a gale.
It's funny how most people will say hello or good morning etc but some wont even look at you or pretend you're not there ! Ha I suppose when you're all sweaty breathing heavy red faced and looking like death warmed up I wouldn't want to say Gidday either !
I am feeling really good after the 30k on saturday morning and my confidence is high.
Well tonight the same another 12k easy and maybe a sprint home.

Day 5

Today is Sunday and REST DAY !
Yesterday was an early morning long run. I started out at about 3:30 am and ran a new road i found while been stuck in traffic. All up 30.3 k as the Garmin 205 tells me. Cold windy and both light and heavy rain. Not a very exciting run but I did see quite a few wallaby's and roo's.
Part of the run went through road kill heaven, where I saw numerous and varied animal surcumbed to the front of cars and four wheel drives.
I felt really good throughout the run and had two gels and stopped to fill a couple of drink bottles.
All up 2:45 hours.
No sore legs or and discumfort

Day No.3 stardate 13 !

Happy Valentines Day ! I ran my 15.3 k this morning and felt terrible for the first 7 k then a second wind came ( not that it wasn't windy enough) and my pace picked up. I am really looking forward to a long run this weekend.
I might do 30 k and go real easy. (5:40 pace)

Day 2

After all this time of no rain and it seems to rain every day for the last few weeks. But who is complaining at least it's filling our dams.
A quick run last night in the rain and blistering winds 8.6 k averaging 4:55 pace. So nice and easy. A very busy night so hopefully a longer run tonight. I will aim for at least 15k nice and slow with a little burst every now and then.
I hate the wet nights because I dont get to use the ipod and my singing the same song over and over again doesn't seem to help entertain. I guess not knowing all the right words or any whole songs doesn't seem to help !

Day 1, 10 weeks to Marathon !

It's Tuesday morning lastnight I did a easy 10.5 k in 50 mins. I wore old shoes because it was raining and because it was a short run.
I have been currently doing between 50-90 k per week depending on my long runs and if I am feeling good. i am not a fast runner but i do enjoy the longer runs (50 k +).
This is a blog to keep me honest in my training and to keep a log.
I wear asics kayano's (great shoe) injinji socks (yeah I know they are expensive but WOW until you have worn them forget about blisters or any foot problems). I have a fuel belt that holds 4 8oz( dont know what that is in ml ) bottles with a little pocket for gels and stuff. I sweat heaps and need to take plenty of water/ades to replenish. I find a gel half way on long runs (25 k +) really helps. I admit I must look a tool at 3 am in the morning with ipod on one arm fuel belt around my waist, gps watch on one arm and heart ratemonitor on the other !
